Activity Directions: Learning Plan for Continuing to Learn about Implementation

This set of resources is designed to help stakeholders understand the conditions needed to support implementation of a standards-based system. This activity helps stakeholders:

Learning Objective

Stakeholders will utilize the Conditions for Successful Standards-based System Implementation Checklist to determine if the conditions are present in the district to support a standards-based system.

Time

30 minutes

Preparation

Print copies of Conditions for Successful Standards-based System Implementation Checklist. Each participant receives one; and additional copies for group tallies.

The last step in identifying what conditions are present to implement a standards-based system is for a large group tally. Ensure there is a white board, chart paper or other material available so all participants can view the tallies.

Directions

1. Discuss the goal for this session: to determine if the conditions are present in the district to support a standards-based system.

2. Ensure all participants have the Conditions for Successful Standards-based System Implementation Checklist.

3. Ask each participant to spend 5 minutes doing a personal review of the checklist, identifying how they would rank the content individually. For the Curriculum, Assessment and Evaluation, and Instruction sections, ask them only utilize the content areas in the checklist in that relate to their work assignments.

4. In small groups, going through one section at a time, have each participant share their rankings. Have a scribe use a new handout to identify each core value identified. Place an ”X” when core values are repeated.

5. Continue to join groups together repeating the same process.

6. The last step is to identify the conditions as a group either on the wall or another visual. It’s important to document all 3 rating totals to enable a comprehensive visual of how the organization is doing. Once the visual list is completed, as a group, identify the areas of standards-based practices the district needs to focus on and make a plan for participants to begin exploring that section of the Portal.
