Activity Directions: Fidelity

Objective: Build shared understanding of the key features and uses of fidelity data in a Decision Support Data System (DSDS).

Time: 90 minutes

Preparation

1. Schedule the current organization or site leadership team to participate in this team activity.

2. Access the Handout: Video Notes for meeting organizer to use to facilitate understanding.

3. Preview the Fidelity video (Direct link to the Fidelity video: http://unc-fpg-cdi.adobeconnect.com/drivers-ed-fidelity/) and ensure the video is ready to be viewed by all participants. (Note: This video requires Flash.)

4. All participants will need access to the following documents: Handout: Fidelity Data Information Chart and Handout: Brainstorming Activity.

Directions

1. Individually or as a group, the team will view an 18 minute video about Fidelity data. Viewing could also be done ahead of time. (Direct link to the Fidelity video: http://unc-fpg-cdi.adobeconnect.com/drivers-ed-fidelity/ Note: Video requires Flash.)

2. Reflect on the information in the video. The facilitator can use the notes and supplemental information in the Additional Information for Video Viewing document to guide the conversation. Many of the questions referenced in the video are available on that document.

3. Read Handout: Fidelity Data Information Chart to get familiar with the types of fidelity data (Context, Content, and Capacity) and the methods of collecting the data (Observation, Products, and Perception).

4. As a team, or in small groups, work through the Handout: Brainstorming Activity following instructions and prompts. Facilitator works to develop shared understanding of what fidelity data is and is not.

5. If working in small groups, have participants share what they have recorded with the larger group.  Some guiding questions might include:

a. What information stands out?

b. What are the considerations and implications for the team?

c. What needs further exploration or clarification?

6. As a large group, determine next right steps for further reviewing a practice/program using fidelity data and other data sources.

a. Summarize for all stakeholders what is currently being done to measure fidelity.

b. How will fidelity be measured in the future? For what practices? For what purpose?  How will the data be stored and shared?

7. Retain this documentation as the team further develops a comprehensive DSDS.
